Dr. Lam Shih Kwong (Paediatrician/Child Specialist)

Let's pause for a moment from the updates so far. My kid is currently sick so I have to off and on take care of her. I brought Jenny to see Dr. Lam Shih Kwong yesterday since she was having fever and cough. I was referred by my friend who told me I should take my kid to see Dr. Lam at Alpha Specialist Centre. I heard of him before from many of my friends but I yet to try him. I went to Alpha's website and search for his clinic hours and thank god, he was available yesterday evening. My friends told me I should expect a queue as the doctor spends his time explaining to parents and making sure that the kid is comfortable before assessing them. I was no.8 according to the "list" from the nurse.

Well, now I know why he's famous. I was able to catch some work while Jenny spent her time watching her fav cartoon on the TV. As I watched, more and more parents start coming to the centre. In a short period, there were about 10 of them. Gosh.. I was lucky to be early. He must be damn good. The nurses were quite friendly and nice. Jenny enjoyed their company. Then came our turn.

The moment Jenny stepped in, Dr. Lam greeted her with a soft voice asking her what's wrong. " My dear, what's wrong? Don't worry yah, Uncle Lam is here. Don't be afraid, ok.." knowing jenny, she'll be crying by now (from past experience) but she didn't. Instead she smiled at the doctor. It was such relieved. The way he talks and the way he assess Jenny really amazes me. Everything he asked Jenny to do she just followed. He was gentle and when he checked Jenny's tongue, he didn't even need to put a "stick" into her mouth.

Other doctors would do so. He said "come cutie face, can you open your mouth a little bit for uncle lam to see"... and she just opened it while he did a quick check with his torch light. Dr. Lam explained she had fever but it's not too high. He gave a few pointers on how to take care of her especially since she may be uncomfortable taking the medicine. As we about to leave the room,  Dr. Lam smiled and bid goodbye to Jenny and she returned with a smile and bye. That was so nice.

The charges were not expensive. I told my wife, we are going to come to Dr. Lam Shih Kwong from now on. Anyway, for those of you who wants to bring your children to see "Uncle Lam", I have prepared his clinic schedule for you. Fyi, he's no longer at Megah.

  1. hi there. i agree with you. i brought my little baby girl for injection at Pantai. Dr. Lam was so kind and gentle. It was so quick and fast. He diverted my baby's attention with a few knocks on the wall and it's done. He's really good. I didn't know he's no longer at Megah. I appreciate the info. Now I can go to Alpha since it's nearer to my house. Thanks a lot !

PS: i like the idea of listing all the clinics and their hours. helps those who in need of info. tq tq

  4. Hey Malaysia Health Guide, when they told me Dr. Lam is no longer at Sime Darby, I was quite devastated cos when I them where he went, they didn't tell me. When I came across your site, I found out he was at Alpha Specialist Centre. Thank you so much for posting these updates to us. Hope your child is doing well. Thank you. - Mrs Choong

  7. Saw Dr. Lam yesterday, I also agree that he was excellent with my son and explained everything thoroughly. However the visit was quite expensive--did not perform any procedure other than the usual check up: stethoscope; torchlight, etc., no jabs or anything. Bill was RM190, for consultation only.
He did spend quite a long time with us though, well over 15 min, as he was very patient and thorough when explaining things. Wonder if the longer face time is reason for high bill.

    1. I think generally most specialist charge slightly higher if the patient takes more time than usual. Dr. Lam's charges so far for more is reasonable. I have been to Tropicana Medical Centre and Damansara Specialist Centre where the charges is higher than Dr. Lam.

  8. Both my child has seen Dr. Lam from when they are babies till my eldest daughter is 8 yrs old. He is one of the few doctors that I can trust. I don't mind waiting for him as I know that it is well worth the wait because he has many patients. He's kind and explained to us the problem with our child in detail. I hope there are more doctors like him
